Look at what you want to reflect
A mirror changes how you experience a room as well as giving you somewhere to check your reflection. Start with the view it will hold.

1. Work with the light
Try a position near or opposite a window. The reflected daylight can help a room feel brighter. Check for glare before deciding where it will stay.
2. Choose the shape
Curved shapes soften a room; a rectangle gives it a clearer line. Consider the furniture around it and how much wall you want to leave visible.
3. Give the room a focus
Above a console, along a hallway or over a mantel, a mirror can pull a space together. Keep its proportions in balance with the piece below.

4. Make it useful
Choose a height and position that work for the people using it. A full-length mirror needs a clear view and enough space to step back.
5. Consider the second view
A plant, a favourite object or a well-placed light can become part of the reflection. Move things around until the view feels right.
